Thomas Leighton McCamy (“Possum”), age 75, died peacefully Jan 6, 2018 after a year-long battle with pancreatic cancer. Leighton was a longtime Atlanta resident and a native of Dalton, GA, born October 21, 1942. He attended the McCallie School in Chattanooga, TN and then the University of Georgia where he was a member of the Chi Phi fraternity. Leighton was a fun-loving avid sports fan who lived long enough to see his beloved Bulldogs win the Rose Bowl. He loved golf, the Atlanta Braves and the Atlanta Falcons, and enjoyed collecting memorabilia representing his favorite teams. He was pre-deceased by his parents Mary Stuart and Robert Gardner McCamy, and his brother Robert Julian McCamy. He is survived by Marielle Shehyn, his life partner and soulmate of nearly 30 years, and their beloved pets, Lilly and Tigger; and Marielle’s daughter and son-in-law, Calla and Reed Noyes, along with their three children, Austin, Henry and Virginia Noyes; sister-in-law Eleanor McCamy; nephew Bob and Tammy McCamy and their children Robert, Harrison and Thomas; niece Mary Stuart “Sissy” McCamy and Nick Kirsch and Sissy’s children Liam, Julian, Leighton and Eleanor Irion; niece Clare McCamy and Harrison Miller and their children Grace, Audrey, Tess and Leighton McCamy-Miller; niece Dede and Jackson Houk and their children Clare, Julian, Jack and Davis. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are being handled by H. M. Patterson & Son-Spring Hill. A celebration of life reception will be held on Sunday, Jan 21, 2018 at the Cross Creek Café from 5:30-7:30 PM, 1221 Cross Creek Parkway, Atlanta GA 30327.
