Randolph Gould Wilson, Jr., 91, of Atlanta, GA, passed away on Monday, October 4, 2021. Randy was born on April 3, 1930, in Atlanta to Randolph G. Wilson, Sr. and Clara Bond Wilson. Randy was a 1948 graduate of Baylor School in Chattanooga, TN. He graduated with his commission in the US Navy from Dartmouth College in 1952. While at Dartmouth he was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity, the Sphinx Honorary Society, and the Dartmouth Glee Club. He married Noradel Truxal in 1953 in Frederick, Maryland, and they shared 68 years of loving devotion. Randy completed his tour of duty with the Navy in 1956 and subsequently worked for National Cylinder Gas, which became Chemetron Corporation and later Air Liquide.
Randy’s greatest passion was sailing. He had his first boat at the age of 15 and was never without a boat after. He was an avid golfer and had a green thumb for gardening, producing a variety of beautiful azaleas. Randy moved to Cumming, Ga in 1981, where he started a small cattle ranch. He was an active member of the North Georgia Cattleman’s Association. In his lifetime, Randy always had a dog. Dogs filled his heart with devoted companionship. Randy was a lifelong Episcopalian and sang in the choir at the Cathedral of St. Philip. Randy and Noradel moved to Canterbury Court in 2012 where he was instrumental in the establishment of the Canterbury County resident chorus.
Randy is survived by his loving wife, Noradel Wilson; his sister, Winkie Persinger; his children, Catherine Lamon (Bob Seymour), Grace Wilson, Randolph G. Wilson, III (Shannon); his grandchildren, Virginia LaMon (Susan), Nolan Wilson (Hannah), Weston Wilson (Sarah), Leigh LaMon Smith (Mike); great grandson, August Wilson, and niece and nephew, Marshall and John Persinger.
A celebration of life will be held on November 11, 2021, at 2pm at the Cathedral of St. Philip in Atlanta. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made in Randy’s honor to Adopt-a-Golden of Atlanta or Canterbury Court Gardens.
