Patricia Carol “Patty” Dorsey Murphy    Patty passed into Our Lord’s kingdom on Oct. 8, 2012. She is survived by her children and their spouses Christy (Dave) Uhland, George (Cindy) Murphy, Lisa McGee, Tom (Kay) Murphy, Meg (Mike) Leveille; grandchildren Sarah, Mike, Kaitlin and Nick; Andrew, Laura and Melissa; Jacob and Jordan; Suzanne, Elise and Rachel; Julia and Katie; great-grandchildren Nathan and Evelyn Rose; brothers, sisters and spouses Dianne (John) Gilbreath, Lamar (Paula) Dorsey, Gloria Patrick, Tom (Jackie) Dorsey; a multitude of nieces, nephews and cousins. Daughter of the late Louie Lamar and Nell Rose Dorsey. Preceded in death by grandchild Amy Murphy. She was related by blood or spirit to half of Atlanta, and y’all know who you are.  Patty’s worldly adventures began in her beloved Atlanta on June 29, 1935. A military spouse, she traveled the U.S. and Germany growing her family and participating in volunteer work, which included starting the first Head Start program in Athens, Ga., and an integrated Brownie Troop, substitute teaching and working for  Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital and many churches. Her volunteerism for the U.S. Army earned the Molly Pitcher Award.  Patty started her professional career at age 46 in Atlanta, and her rapid rise through the insurance industry culminated in the opening of her own Murphy Insurance Services and her selection as president of the Georgia Health Underwriters Association, an organization she co-founded. GHUA now recognizes the Patty Murphy Lifetime Achievement Award. Patty’s volunteerism continued beyond her earthly existence, as she donated to the Georgia Eye Bank.  She took great pride in being a native Atlantan and in her vast voluntary achievements, but her greatest joy came in spending time with her extensive family. Patty was a patron of the arts and she enjoyed discussing religion and religious topics with anyone who had ears. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Kingswood United Methodist Church, Dunwoody, and GAHU.  A memorial service is Thursday at 11 a.m. at Kingswood UMC in Dunwoody. Visitation is at Patterson’s Oglethorpe Hill Chapel on Wednesday, 5-7 p.m.
