Pamela Anne Isdell, age 79, of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Aberdeen, Scotland on July 22, 1945, Pamela moved to Zambia as a young child and quickly developed a deep connection to Africa. It was in Zambia that Pamela met and married her husband, Neville, with whom she shared 57 years of love and dedication. Together they lived in eleven countries on five continents.
Pamela was passionate about nature and conservation, particularly the protection of wildlife. She became a longtime supporter of organizations such as World Wildlife Fund, The Nature Conservancy and BirdLife South Africa, just to name a few. Pamela’s commitment was evident in her significant contributions, especially to the preservation of the African Penguin. Her efforts in securing critical protections for penguin populations will serve as an enduring legacy of her dedication to habitat preservation and species conservation. She also became well known in horseracing circles through her purple and white colors.
Pamela’s life was a testament to the power of kindness, the importance of community, and the need for environmental stewardship. As Pamela said, “I think that the most important thing we must realize is that everyone—even just one person—can make a difference.”
She is survived by her husband, Neville; their daughter, Cara Anne Isdell Lee; son-in-law, William Zachary Lee; grandson, Rory Alastair Isdell Lee; and brother, Colin Gill.
A memorial service to celebrate Pamela’s remarkable life will be held at The Cathedral of St. Philip in Atlanta at 2:00 p.m. on April 3, 2025. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Atlanta Humane Society or Birdlife South Africa in her honor.
Pamela’s spirit will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.
