Edwin was born in Montgomery, AL, November 10, 1941, and grew up in Silver Spring, MD, where he graduated from Northwood High School. In 1966 he graduated from American University with a Masters in Psychology. In 1969 he graduated from the University of Alabama with an EdD in Psychology.
While at the University of Alabama, he worked nights entering his research into the massive campus computer which was still a rarity at colleges in those days. He assisted the academic coach of the Bear Bryant winning football team by counseling students with test anxiety and other challenging issues. He partied at Pi Kappa Alpha where his Uncle John Sparkman was a founding member of the charter chapter.
In 1969 he moved to the Atlanta area and began clinical work and taught Psychology at Atlanta University. Later he founded the Atlanta Center for Psychological Services and was appointed Staff Psychologist for the Douglas County Sheriff Department.
Edwin loved his community and was an active member and usher at Dunwoody United Methodist Church. He enjoyed travel (singing was always part of road trips), scuba diving, and rooting for his favorite sports teams: the University of Alabama, Atlanta Braves, and Washington Redskins. He was a fitness buff, and as he got older, dancing replaced his jogging, push-ups and sit-ups. He did everything wholeheartedly, and his zest for life was infectious. Spending time with him always meant there was an adventure around every corner. He will be deeply missed.
Edwin was predeceased by his parents, Dr. Edwin Presley Hall, and Mildred Guay Hall, and is survived by his daughter, Courtney (Tom) Harjung of Daphne, AL, his brother John (Lotte) Hall of Potomac, MD, niece Klara-Ann Hall of Bethesda, MD, and nephew Christopher Hall of Potomac, MD.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 4th at DUMC, 1548 Mt. Vernon Road, Dunwoody, GA, 30338.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
