Born on June 23, 1946, in Cook County, Illinois, Paul entered the world with bright blue eyes, a radiant smile, and a spark of mischief that would define him throughout his life. He was his mother’s firstborn, the apple of her eye — a joyful, curious, and charismatic boy who grew into a man whose presence could light up any room. That same glint of humor and warmth never faded, even in his final days.
Paul moved to Atlanta as a child and graduated from Dykes High School before attending the University of Georgia, where he earned a BBA in Real Estate. He proudly joined the Chi Phi fraternity, where he formed lifelong friendships. After college, Paul served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1969 to 1973, a time marked by courage and service. During these years, he married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Ann Thomas, in a love story that lasted 41 years — rooted in devotion and deep friendship.
After his service, Paul and Shirley returned to Atlanta, where Paul launched a successful real estate career at Draper Owens, specializing in landlord and tenant representation until his retirement. But Paul’s true legacy was never about his career alone — it was about how he lived and how he made others feel.
Paul had a rare gift for connection. He was a natural charmer, making people feel seen, appreciated, and uplifted. With a perfectly timed joke or a twinkle in his eye, he could bring laughter to any room. A fantastic dancer and true gentleman, Paul knew how to tell a story that captivated an audience, and, above all, how to be there — truly present — for the people he loved.
Paul gave of himself freely and without fanfare. Whether volunteering at Hospice Atlanta, enjoying a round of golf at Cherokee Town and Country Club, or sharing his love of music (Buddy Holly always playing somewhere nearby), Paul lived with grace, generosity, and joy. He believed in showing up, loving big, and finding light in every moment.
Paul is survived by his two loving brothers: Thomas Howard Ramseur (Wende), their children David (Mel), and their three daughters, Stefan (Whitney); and James Carlisle Ramseur (Lynda), their children Ryan and his daughter and son and Rebecca (Zach Klinger), and their two sons.
Paul was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Shirley, with whom he is now reunited, along with his cherished parents. Though our hearts ache with his absence, we find peace knowing he is home — and that somewhere above us, the stars shine a little brighter tonight because of him.
A service honoring Paul’s life will be held on Saturday, May 3rd, at 11:00 with refreshments immediately following the service, H.M. Patterson & Son – Oglethorpe. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Hospice Atlanta by visiting vnhs.org
