Charles Edward Bedell of Atlanta died peacefully on March 8, 2018 of heart failure. He was 55 years old. Charles was born in New York City and grew up in Atlanta and Jacksonville, Florida. He graduated from Bishop Kenny High School in Jacksonville and attended the University of Florida, Georgia State University and the University of Georgia, where he graduated with a master’s degree in Social Work. He worked as a substance abuse counselor, in computer programming and in sales.
He is survived by his mother Elizabeth Snyder Bedell of Jacksonville, Florida, father and stepmother Dave and Jeanne Bedell of Atlanta, sister Liz Bedell Coyle of Atlanta, nephew Grant Coyle and wife Alison and nephew Dylan Coyle of Atlanta, former brother-in-law Greg Coyle, brother and sister-in-law George and Kari Bedell and niece Evelyn of La Plata, Maryland and step-sister Brooke Bolander of Glenwood, Florida. He was predeceased by brother Brad Bedell of Atlanta.
Other relatives include aunts Betsy Koomen and husband John of Nashville, Tennessee and Louisa Underwood of Bellingham, Washington and uncle Frank Bedell and wife Lois of Richmond, Virginia, as well as numerous cousins. He also leaves two spoiled cats, Max and Liza, who miss him a lot.
Charles was devoted to his many friends and his practice of kundalini yoga with guru Chris Chambers at the mahashakti kundalini yoga residence. His family has been comforted since his death by the many accounts from his friends of his love, kindness and supportive presence in difficult times and his open enjoyment of the good times they shared.
Friends and family will hold a memorial service for Charles on March 24 at 4 p.m. at the mahashakti kundalini yoga residence at 2271 Wineleas Rd., Decatur, GA 30033. The organizers have requested that those attending RSVP by calling 404-876-8451.
