Bobi was born on March 17, 1936, in Leesburg, Virginia, and was a resident of Atlanta, Georgia for the past 55 years. She was the proud and stalwart mother of her only child Richard, departed August 29, 2007, whose 1996 Olympic heroism and travails were memorialized by Clint Eastwood’s Film “Richard Jewell” in which she was portrayed by Oscar winning actress Kathy Bates. Above all Bobi was a beloved and loving daughter, sister, wife, mother and friend to so, so many. She is survived by two sisters, three nieces, and two nephews, and was predeceased by her brother and one nieces.
Bobi was an avid animal lover, donor to many pet charities, and doting “mother” to her Daisy Dog and Sassy Cat. She was a consummate baker, and her many friends, including Mr. Eastwood and Ms. Bates, delighted in her “famous” pound cakes, Mississippi mud pies, and cookies of all kinds. She was a mainstay of the Bridgepoint Church at Toco Hills, committees’ member, and a part of its many activities, especially the drive through Christmas pageant displays that so delighted families with young children.
Before and after retirement from her longtime work at Marsh McLennan, Bobi’s babysitting was a godsend for parents lucky enough to have her. She was the beloved nanny for many children from their infancy through early teen years. And one thing every one of these kids knew from the start, Bobi and her wooden spoon were the law! Her plain talk, goodness, and love will be terribly missed by us all.
Services for Bobi will be held at Bridgepoint Church at Toco Hills, 1995 Clairmont Road, Decatur, Georgia on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. If you are unable to attend, you may be able to view the Service live at https://bridgepointtoco.com.
In lieu of flowers, please remember Bobi with a donation in her memory to the Atlanta Humane Society.
