Paul Davis Thompson

Paul Davis Thompson was born on July 1, 1949, in West Carthage, New York. He was the 11th child of Clarence and Hazel Thompson, both deceased, and is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 52 years, Sandy Thompson, his son Daryl Thompson, wife Leslie and children Skylynn, Tyler and Logan of North Carolina and Michael Thompson, wife Robin of Florida. Also grieving his loss are his precious daughter, Sheri Tobias and his cherished granddaughter, Paige Tobias, both of Bogart, Georgia and grandson, Quinten Tobias of Arizona.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Bill, Bob, Neil, John, Jim and Arnold, his sisters Arlene, Pat, Chris and June. He is survived by his sister Susan Howard and husband John, as well as his brother, Steven Thompson both of Florida. His large family included many nieces and nephews as well who often expressed that he was always their ‘favorite uncle’.

Paul served in the U S Air Force for four years and it was during that time that he met Sandy in July 1971. It was love at first sight for both of them and they married April 1, 1972, in Winston-Salem, NC.

Sandy encouraged Paul to study the Bible and he heard his first Bible discourse at a Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses on June 7, 1972. He studied the Scriptures diligently and on June 2, 1974, symbolized his dedication to Jehovah God in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Paul received his Master’s License as an Electrical Contractor and in 1980, started Thompson Electrical, Inc. He was a successful businessman who was well-respected in the community because of his honesty and diligence in everything he did. The family moved to Georgia in 2006 and he earned his Contractor’s license and continued working until his retirement in 2010.

In addition to his responsibilities at home and in business, Paul volunteered much of his time to teach others the wonderful truths he had learned from the Bible. He served as an Elder for over 40 years, being the Presiding Overseer or Coordinator for more than 30 years in various congregations. He most recently served as an Elder in the Athens West Congregation.

No matter the assignment, Paul always supported whatever need there was and gave his very best in serving Jehovah. He assisted many to learn about his Heavenly Father. Today, some of them serve as Elders and Ministerial Servants in their own congregations. He was always so proud of his many spiritual sons.

He was a faithful servant of Jehovah, a beloved husband and father, an exemplary elder and spiritual father to many. He will be missed more than words can express until he awakens to see the fulfillment of Jesus’ promise… “the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out” – John 5:28, 29

Services will be held Saturday, December 2, at 3:00 p.m., in the Bernstein Funeral Home Chapel.
