Jim Ann Stewart 93, of Athens, GA, daughter of the late Ben Hill and Alybel Cash White, passed away on October 5, 2024. Born June 5, 1931, in Hart County, GA, she was married for 38 years to the late Dallas Wilson Stewart of Marietta, GA.
She leaves behind her son, Dallas Anthony Stewart; daughter, Delta Stewart Sonderman (Steve); granddaughter, Sara S. Neil (Devin); and great-grandson, James Wilson Neil of Charlotte, NC; and her brother, Benjamin J. White of Enfield, CT; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Janice McRimmon and Kathryn Davenport.
A dedicated educator, Jim Ann taught mathematics at Clarke Central High School then advanced to become the Mathematics Coordinator for the Clarke County Board of Education. She was a proud graduate of Berry High School and College and earned advanced degrees in Mathematics from the University of Georgia.
She had a passion for traveling, baking, and handcrafts, often sharing her creations and treats with friends and family. Jim Ann had a keen eye for treasures, frequently haunting yard sales, auctions, and Goodwill stores. She joined St. James Methodist Church in 1963 and was a member of the Wesley Class and the Women’s Circle.
Jim Ann's intelligence, spirit and zest for life touched many. A fierce friend, a friendly neighbor, and a devoted parent, grandparent and great-grandparent, her kindness and candid honesty will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A memorial service will be held at St. James Methodist Church on Sunday, October 20, at 2:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Athens Wellness Clinic or Berry College.
