A lifelong Athenian, she was the daughter of the late Louise Phinizy and Thomas McKey Tillman. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, John Henry Terrell, Jr., and her brothers, Thomas McKey Tillman, Jr., and Billups Phinizy Tillman.
Mrs. Terrell attended Barrow School and graduated from Athens High School. She attended Mount Vernon Women’s College in Washington, DC, before returning to Athens and graduating from the University of Georgia. While at the University, she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority and the SAE Magnolia Ball Queen.
She was an active and devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church where she served as Elder, the Treasurer of the Women of the Church, and as a loyal member of both the Flower Committee and Circle 1.
Mrs. Terrell was a member of the Athens Junior Assembly (now Junior League of Athens), the Junior Ladies Garden Club where she served as President, and the Society of the Colonial Dames in America, Georgia Chapter. She was also a board member of the Athens Symphony and the YWCO. Her most cherished membership was in her Tuesday Bridge Club.
Mrs. Terrell was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and aunt. Survivors include her children, Louise “Tootsie” Terrell Adams, John H. Terrell III (Mary Anna) and Greta Terrell Covington (Stephen); her seven grandchildren, Elinor Marie Adams, Howell Hayes Adams, John H. Terrell IV, Cecile McKey Terrell, Wallace Knox Terrell, Louise Celeste Covington and Ann Harper Covington. Also surviving are her sisters-in-law, Mary Catherine Tillman and Regina Jackson Tillman; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank her long-time caregivers Linda Elder, Cedrita Brown, Margie Phillips, Brenda Robison and Cathy Jeffries, for their loving support.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, April 21, at the First Presbyterian Church of Athens with Dr. Carol Strickland and Dr. John Kipp presiding. The family will welcome guests afterwards in the fellowship hall.
