David Straub

David P Straub Athens, GA David P Straub, 65, of Athens, GA passed away Saturday, July 9, 2011. A native of South Williamsport, PA, Mr. Straub was the son of the late Paul M. Straub and Blanche Fullmer Straub and was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Jane Istvan and a brother-in-law, Phil DeWitt. Dave graduated from Mansfield State College in Mansfield, PA in 1968 with a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and retired from the University of Georgia as a Management Information Specialist. He was a member of Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity, the Bradford, PA area Jaycees, and Compass Community Church in Athens, GA. Survivors include his devoted wife of 43 years and college sweetheart, Mary DeWitt Straub of Athens; son, Jeffrey David Straub, of Commerce, with whom he shared a passion for Georgia Bulldog football and boating on Lake Hartwell, and his daughter-in-law, Karen, who's dry wit matched his own; grandsons, Caleb Watson, who shared his love for Boy Scouts and the outdoors, and Jeffrey David Straub, Jr., who shared Dave's competitive nature in all sports and giving wedgies. Also surviving are sister, Cheryl Stiber and husband, Jack of Allenwood, PA; brothers-in-law, James DeWitt and wife, Joyce of Monroe, NH, Frank DeWitt and wife, Bev of Towanda, PA, and Dan Istvan of Rochester, NY; numerous beloved nieces and nephews; and loving friends, many of whom shared his desire to play scratch golf. The family gatherings at the cottage in Mountain Lake, PA will not be the same without Dave on the porch swing-bed. A memorial service will be held 4PM Saturday, July 16th in the chapel at Bernstein Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Carpenter officiating. The family will receive friends from 3-4PM prior to the service at Bernstein.
