Mrs. Cobb was born in Fitzgerald on June 24, 1922, to James Jarratt and Catherine Wilcox Pryor. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Herbert Cobb Jr., whom she married in 1943, and a brother, James Jarrett Pryor Jr., and sister, Louise Elizabeth Pryor.
She received a degree in journalism from the University of Georgia in 1943 and a degree in library science, also from UGA, in 1965. She was a member of Tri Delta sorority. Mrs. Cobb was the assistant editor of the University of Georgia Press and the Georgia Review for 10 years.
For 30 years, she served as a librarian with the Clarke County School System.
Mrs. Cobb was a member of St. James United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school for more than 40 years. She was active in the Pilot Club and Church Women United in Athens. A writer, she published many poems and two books.
Survivors include: son, Henry Herbert (Brenda) Cobb III of Athens; daughter, Kitty Cobb (Jimmy) Carroll of Athens; brother, Gerald Wilcox (Jackie) Pryor of Fitzgerald; grandchildren, Anna Cobb (Lee) Dempsey of Gainesville, Melinda Cobb (Bryan) Carr and Henry Herbert (Amanda) Cobb IV, all of Birmingham, Ala., Melissa Carroll Kinney of Seattle, Wash., and Monica Carroll (Donnie) Vick of Bethlehem; nine great-grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews, and a special friend and caretaker, Denise Whitaker.
Interment is private. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Mary's Hospice House, St. James United Methodist Church or Church Women United of Athens.
