He was born on Sept. 5, 1976, to Steve and Hillary Yarbrough and grew up in the East Limestone area. He graduated from East Limestone High School in 1994 and later attended Southern Union Community College and Auburn University.
Lon was preceded in death by his father, Steve L. Yarbrough, and grandfathers, Jesse L. Yarbrough and Charles Houston Brewer.
He is survived by his mother Hillary Brewer Kennemer and husband Bill; sister, Molly Yarbrough Garrison and husband Doug; grandmothers; Mauvoline “Mimi” Yarbrough and Frances Brewer; an aunt Maureen Lokken and husband Bill; uncles, Harley Brewer and wife Karen and Charlie Brewer and wife Rhonda; and niece and nephew, Jessie and Braden Garrison, along with several cousins.
Lon was a huge sports fan and followed his favorite teams with great vigor. He had a mind for all the sports statistics and personalities and loved to discuss them.
He was most passionate about Auburn football. He was proficient with computers and enjoyed the social media.
He was in the honor fraternity at Southern Union and a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity at Auburn. He served on the Auburn Fraternity Executive Committee as Social Chair. In addition, he was part of the Auburn Student Government Association.
During his short life, he worked as a financial analyst with the Boeing Company, commercial plumber and air conditioning installer with M&D Mechanical, and held various positions in the restaurant industry.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. today at McConnell Funeral Home at 1200 E. Forrest St. in Athens.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery at 27550 Nick Davis Road in Athens.
Pallbearers will be Calvin Scott, Anthony Moore, Kenneth Prater, Michael Steber, Charles Brewer, and Jeremy Brewer.
