Hazel R. Smith

The Funeral for Hazel Robinson Smith, 96, of Athens, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at McConnell Memorial Chapel with, Bro. Dwight Ridinger and Bro. Joe Curtis officiating. Burial will be in Limestone Memorial Gardens with McConnell Funeral Home directing.

Visitation will be from 12-2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Smith died Friday, November 24, 2023, in the same home on U.S. 72 West in which she had resided for 67 years.

She was born June 13, 1927, in Limestone County, AL; to Claude Robinson and Ethel Griffin Robinson. She was a member of Seven Mile Post Road Church of Christ. Mrs. Smith was the last remaining sibling living out of 10.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband John O. Smith, SR., and one son, Douglas Keith Smith.

Survivors include two daughters, Joan Pearson and husband Walt and Debby Smith and husband Ed; one son, John Smith Jr. and wife Kelley all of Athens; 10 grandchildren, Eric Fleming, Gabe Fleming, Bree Bowers Garrett, Justin Fleming, Jamee Bowers, Blue Bowers, Casey Smith Wimbleton, Brittany Smith Chapman, John David Smith, and Adam Smith; 15 great-grandchildren, Miles Fleming, Ethan Fleming, Emma Fleming, Tenna Fleming, Luke Durham, Jake Fleming, Kayleigh Wimberly, Audrey Fleming, Ella Bowers, Braden Wimberly, Bennett Bowers, Cole Chapman, Cade Chapman, Tatum Garrett, and Lilla Rose Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, and honorary pallbearers will be great-grandsons.
