Evelyn “Aline” Butler Malone, 85, of Athens, AL died peacefully Saturday, March 1 at Madison Manor Nursing Home. Visitation will take place Tuesday, March 4 starting at 4pm with a memorial service immediately following at 7pm at McConnell Funeral Home, Athens. A graveside burial service will take place Wednesday, March 5 at 11am at Roselawn Cemetery.
Aline was born in Elgin, AL on June 11, 1928. She met her husband of 61 years, Lee Bandon Malone, II at her high school where he would bring a projector for the students to see the latest movies. After his service in World War II, the two were married in Rogersville. They relocated to Athens when Lee took a job with the Army working on the space program in Huntsville, AL.
Over the course of their marriage, she was a 50-year member and leader of the Oakdale Homemakers Club, an active member of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program and most of all a “mother” to all.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee; sisters: Arvella Holden, Lillie Mae Davis, Mary Moore; and brothers: Preston, Morris, GW, Dillie and Dillard Butler. She was also preceded in death by her great-granddaughter Ensley Hand.
She is survived by three daughters: Regina Malone and Fran Malone both of Huntsville; Lisa Roberts and her husband Michael Roberts of Athens. She is also survived by her son Lee Malone, III and his wife Tammi of Athens.
She was loved by her six grandchildren: Leslye Worboys, Teresa Hurley, Kim Henry, Sean McMeans, Merritt Malone, Shae Malone and four great-grandchildren: Katelyn Hurley, Dylan Hurley, Parker Henry and Mason Henry.
