Glen Thomas Oglesby passed into peace after a short illness on May 30, 2022., he was 88 years young. Glen was born on Oct. 12, 1933 to Lois Woodward Oglesby and Thomas Lewis Oglesby in Plainview, Arkansas. He and his sister, Betty, left Arkansas with their grandmother to join their mother in Greenfield, CA when Glen was 9 years old. Glen graduated from Gonzales High School in 1954. He worked in the Oldsmobile-Cadillac dealership in King City before being drafted into the Army during the Korean Conflict. While stationed at Ft. Sheridan, Illinois he learned how to operate a snow plow, something a California boy hadn't driven. He soon became a driver for officers and often spoke of enjoying jeep rides along and in the Great Lakes.
Upon his discharge Glen returned to Soledad, CA and his first wife, June Brooks. They welcomed a son, Daniel. Glen took his mechanical talents to Pacific Gas & Electric in 1962. In 1967 Glen married a recent transplant from Ohio, Paula Wilhelm, who was teaching in Soledad. Paula and Glen welcomed sons Gary in 1970 and Gregory in 1973. They became his little GTOs.
Glen became a garage supervisor for Los Padres Division in 1975 and moved the family to Atascadero, CA. Glen retired from PG&E after 30 years with the love of cars, trucks, and motorcycles still calling him. He found part time work as a private contractor within the county at Frederick's Paving and the Spring Ranch, Shandon, CA. He retired from the ranch at age 84. Glen had an encyclopedic knowledge of cars from all eras and loved to talk engines, parts, and the over 30 cars he had owned before age 30.
Glen instilled a love of hunting, fishing, and dirt bikes in his sons. He led them on many adventures on back roads, lakes, and streams. He and Paula toured the U.S., Canada, and Alaska in their 5th wheel for most of their retirement. Glen never found a backroad he didn't like.
Glen's friendships were strong and many. Each one held a unique and special place in his life. He knew that our arms are meant for carrying others when needed. While at other times, those arms were for pushing some until they could reach their potential. Glen will be greatly missed and loved by his family and friends.
He is predeceased by both parents, sister Betty Watson Jackson, and brother Tommy Oglesby.
