Robert Allan was born September 4, 1922 on the farm alongside the Big Muddy Badlands at Big Beaver, SK. He was the youngest son in a family of seven boys and six girls and spent all his early life on the farm. He worked in the Morrow Coal Mine with his older brothers from his early teens and also raised mink. In 1943 he left to follow two brothers into the air force where he served for three years as an Airframe Mechanic at Fingal and St. Thomas, ON and Calgary, AB. Following his discharge in early 1946 he returned to the Big Beaver district and became a Rawleigh dealer and also worked in construction. He worked in the coal mine and spent two years on the CPR before accepting employment with Sask Wheat Pool in July 1950; a position he held for 30 years at Buffalo Gap, McCord, Rockglen and Sintaluta before retiring to Assiniboia in 1983. In the spring of 1946 Bob was married to Norma Church who was a member of the RCAF Women’s Division, and together they raised two children. Bob was an active participant in the life of each community in which he lived. He was involved through the years in 4-H, senior and little league ball, senior and minor hockey, Kinsmen, Lions Club, Royal Arch Masons, Royal Canadian Legion, square dance club and Home & School Association. He was a strong supporter of the Co-op and Credit Unions and served many years on the Board of Directors. He enjoyed curling and all sports and had been instrumental in organizing bridge clubs, always enjoying a good game of bridge. He acted as Draw Master at countless bonspiels and tournaments over the years and was umpire for many a ball game. Following his retirement his interest turned to gardening, fishing, travelling and playing bridge. He was a member of the 55 Club and spent many hours in association with other seniors. He was predeceased by his wife Norma (nee Church); daughter and son-in-law Donna and John Jepson; his parents; two brothers in infancy; brothers George, Herb, Orville, Bill, Bert and John and sisters Ada, Anna and Mary. Bob is survived by his son Wesley (Ellenore) of Nelson, BC; five grandchildren: Sheila, Shane, Sheldon, Jason and Angela; 10 great-grandchildren: Keifer, Kyla, BJ, Justin, Ethan, Grayson, Jonathon, Ilya, Elle and Liam and sisters Vi, Alice and Jennie. Funeral Service for Bob was held Thursday, November 9, 2017 at Ross Funeral Chapel. The Reverend Marilyn Leuty officiated. Tribute was delivered by son Wes. Urn Bearer was grandson Shane. Interment followed at Mount Hope Cemetery, Assiniboia, SK. Donations in memory of Bob may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion or Assiniboia 55 Club.
