John Edward Watchorn

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of John Watchorn, on January 2, 2022 at the Assiniboia Union Hospital Integrated Facility, Assiniboia, SK.

John was born April 13, 1932 at Assiniboia, SK to parents John and Elizabeth Watchorn. He grew up on a farm just north of Assiniboia. In 1948, the family moved to Salmon Arm, BC but returned to Assiniboia in 1955. John married Gibby Kwasnicki on July 2, 1983. They resided on Gibby’s farm where they enjoyed a wonderful life. John was a dedicated husband who worked side by side with Gibby on both of their farms. John took great pride in refurbishing antique tractors and in his carpentry work. In 2014, they moved to Assiniboia, which was now there permanent residence. John was admitted to hospital November 5, 2021 with heart problems and passed away January 2, 2022.

John was predeceased by his parents John and Elizabeth Watchorn, a brother Robert, a sister Olive Pettem, brothers-in-law Verdun McGirr, Will Platzer, and Delmar Pettem. He leaves to mourn his wife Gibby, sisters Marjorie McGirr, Doreen (Dick) Oakes, and Dorothy Platzer, his step children Debra (Louis) Halbgewachs, Marcia (Mark) Beckman, Kevin (Mary) Kwasnicki, Juliet (Kevin) Rich, Kathleen (Jay) Krahn, and Joan (Cory) Hansen, and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Funeral service was held on Monday, January 10, 2022 at 1:30 pm at St. George’s Roman Catholic Church, 325 6th Avenue East, Assiniboia, SK, officiated by Anglican Deacon Arleen Champion. Interment followed at Mount Hope Cemetery, Assiniboia. In lieu of flowers, donations in Memory of John may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 1738 Quebec Ave #26, Saskatoon, SK S7K 1V9. John's family would like to thank everyone at the Assiniboia Union Integrated Facility for their kindness and care for John in the last couple months of his life.
