1927 - 2021
On Friday, October 1, 2021, in the small community of Coronach Saskatchewan, beloved for miles around, the ‘legend, leader and sage’ Harold Melvin Siggelkow slipped away. In his lifelong hometown, almost everyone knew who you meant when you mentioned the name ‘Harold’, that kind, thoughtful, generous, friendly, mischievous and tenacious tease, Harold.
On March 25, 1927, Harold was born in Weyburn, Saskatchewan, the firstborn child of Walter & Mary (Lambert) Siggelkow, of Constance, Saskatchewan. From that day forward he lived and loved life to the fullest.
He was a resource to the community, his family, and his friends. If you needed to know something about history, farming, horses, carriages, carpentry, government, coal mining, trains, travel or the natural state of things, he was your go-to man. “Just ask Harold.” Harold could be comfortable in dirty coveralls or a tuxedo. He was at home from barn to brass, whether having coffee with a local farmer or meeting royalty; he was a true Renaissance Man.
The Walter Siggelkow family moved from Constance to Coronach in 1943 for Harold to attend high school. It was there, on Main Street, where 16-year-old Harold first met 14-year-old Patricia May Ching. Pat was visiting from Prince Albert staying at her sister Florence Nelson’s home. Harold walked her home that day and asked to see her again. Pat returned to Coronach in 1947 to teach school. Harold was working at his dad’s electric plant. They were married on June 29, 1949 and lived the rest of their lives in Coronach. Harold lost his beloved Patricia to cancer February 3, 2008.
Parents, Walter and Mary are both gone - Walter passed in 1975 at age 75 - Mary lived just shy of 103 years and passed in 2008. Harold was predeceased by his brother Orvil. He is survived by siblings, Donald (Doris) Siggelkow, Joyce Crowdis, Rodney (Louise) Siggelkow, Sharon (Wayne) Miller.
Harold is survived by three sons and two daughters: Edwin (Tess) of Grande Prairie, AB, Maxine (Richard) Wild of Spring, TX, Joanne (Ed) Teichroeb of Grande Prairie, AB, Thomas (Wendy) of Calgary, AB, and Harry of Coronach, SK., 13 grandchildren: Cherie (Paul) Kenya, Dawn (Neil) Wilson, Andrew Siggelkow, and their mother Jeanne Siggelkow, Maria Siggelkow, Richard Bruce (Jane) Wild, Michelle (Sean) Merryman, Thomas Teichroeb, Jason Teichroeb, Steven Siggelkow, Sarah Siggelkow, Catherine (Zechariah) Halverson, Oscar Siggelkow, and their mother Beth Forbes, Rebecca Grant, 9 great grandchildren: Makeda and Ayanna Kenya, Carter and Kinley Wilson, Jonathan (Leanne) McDade, Paul and Nick Wild, and Ian and Joshua Merryman.
Hundreds of people just plain loved him. They loved his company, his stories, his humour, his support, his guidance, his wisdom, his big heart, and his little grin. He will be dearly missed.
Funeral Service was held on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at 2:00 pm at the Coronach Alliance Church, 221 1st Ave West in Coronach, SK. Linda Kirby officiated.
