Doug was born February 26, 1921 at the home farm at Verwood, Saskatchewan. He started school in Verwood and moved to Assiniboia at the age of six. He finished his schooling in Assiniboia.
In 1939 he joined the South Saskatchewan Regiment. Doug took his training in Shilo, Manitoba. He met and married Phyllis MacNevin. Doug and Phyllis were married January 6, 1942. He remained in the Army until 1945. When Doug returned home, he worked at the McBride Grocery Store. Then after Doug was finished working in the grocery store he became the Assiniboia Milkman until 1961. After supplying milk to the town of Assiniboia he went onto work at the Assiniboia Court House until his retirement in 1986.
Doug was a man that loved all sports and enjoyed them all of his life but Doug’s passions were ball and hockey. He was one man that loved to tell people how to play and the people that he coached loved him back.
Predeceased by his wife Phyllis in 1997, son Barclay in 2009, his parents Robert and Christina and sisters Irene Perrier and Blanche McDonald; Doug is survived by sons, Mac (Carol) of Regina and Hector (Geraldine) of Swift Current, daughter-in-law Lynn of Abbotsford, BC; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, brother Gordon of BC, brothers-in-law Walter Perrier, Ron McDonald, and Garnet (Eleanor) MacNevin as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
