Robert Ogden (Bud) Strine, 94, of Ashland, Ohio completed his journey home Friday, August 19, 2022, surrounded by his loving wife of 70 years, Janice, and family. An amazing husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Bud was born in Shelby, Ohio, August 14, 1928, the son of Harry B. and Helen Ogden Strine Tugend.
Bud and Janice (Miller) were married August 23, 1952, and together built a strong and lasting marriage on a foundation of faith and love. He will be greatly missed by Janice and his three children - Steve (Tena) Strine of Ashland, Jeff (Lisa) Strine of Powell, and Susan (Dan) Strine Denbow of Ashland; ten grandchildren - Steven (Kate) Strine, Nathan (Alexis) Strine, Kaleigh (Chas) Cullen, Michael (Donna) Strine, Kristina (Wilson) Pak, Gregory Strine, Jason Strine, Grant Denbow, Garrett Denbow and Luke Denbow; and eight great-grandchildren – Ella, Colin, Myla, Paisley, Liam, Parker, Elliot, and Edith.
Bud is also survived by his sister, Ruth Ann (Strine) Root of Mansfield.
Bud graduated from Ashland High School in 1946 and from Ashland College in 1950 where he received the Outstanding Alumni Award in 1980 for “Banking and Community Involvement”. He was also a graduate of the Ohio School of Banking at Ohio University.
He enlisted in the Air National Guard of Ohio, 164th Fighter Bomber Squadron, in 1950 and was favorably discharged as staff sergeant, intelligence sector, of the 164th Fighter Interceptor Squadron in 1955.
Bud will be remembered by many for a long and successful banking career which began in 1954 behind the teller line at Ashland Bank and Savings. In 1974, he was elected President. In 1988, the bank merged with Bank One of Mansfield and he was elected Vice Chairman and Director of Bank One, Mansfield. He served as a member of the Presidents Council, Banc One of Ohio Corp. until retiring from banking in 1991.
An active community servant leader, Bud was past president of The Noon Lions Club and served on the boards of the American Red Cross of Ashland County, Ashland University Alumni Association, Ashland Area Chamber of Commerce, Ashland Community Improvement Corporation, Ashland Development Corporation, and the Ashland County Automobile Association.
Bud enjoyed playing golf in his retirement with several long-time buddies, but his greatest source of joy and proudest accomplishment was his family. He was the biggest fan at most of the grandchildren’s basketball, football, soccer, hockey, and gymnastics events. His family and close friends will remember his engaging manner, sense of humor, and quick ‘one-liners’.
Bud and Janice have been involved members of First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ for 70 years; Bud having been baptized there at the age of 13. Music was a source of joy in Bud’s life and both were dedicated members of the church’s music ministry for many years. Bud also served on numerous church committees, was a trustee, and former board chair.
The Strine family will receive friends Saturday, August 27th at First Christian Church, 9:00A to 11:00A followed immediately by a celebration of life. After the service, we invite all to join the family for a brief interment ceremony at Ashland Cemetery, followed by a luncheon at First Christian Church.
The family would like to acknowledge and thank the wonderful caregivers from Ohio’s Hospice Lifecare, and Sunshine Homecare, who supported them all so well the past few weeks.
