

Bob was born on November 25, 1939, to Dr. Fred and Celia Meves Blankenship in Louisville, Kentucky. He graduated from DePauw University in Indiana in 1961, and the University of Louisville College of Medicine in 1965. He specialized in internal medicine and infectious diseases. He then served 11 years in the United States Air Force as a physician in Internal Medicine, followed by six years in private practice in Fairfield, California.
From 1983-2000, Bob practiced internal medicine with a specialty in infectious diseases for Aramco in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. Upon returning from the Middle East, Bob continued to serve as an internist and hospitalist in several regional hospitals, including the Veterans Administration in Colorado and for the Choctaw Nation in Oklahoma, until his retirement in 2017.
Bob is survived by his wife Monica Walsh Blankenship, whom he married on May 30, 1980, in Bernard, Iowa; three children from his first marriage to Diane Day Bray - Leslie, Amy and Brent; and three children with Monica - Erin, Kevin and Meghan; his daughter-in-law Dawn Blankenship and two grandchildren Grace and Cassius; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, and his sisters Bonnie Chapman and Nancy Brinly.
