HENDRIX, Ray L., 79, of Arnold, MO passed away on October 20, 2015. Ray was the beloved husband for 56 years to the late Willie Sue (nee Harville) Hendrix and loving son of the late Elmer and Eula (nee Lowery) Hendrix. He is the beloved nephew of the late Fred and Mittie Lowery who raised him from the age of 5. He is the beloved father of Ronald L. (Angela) Hendrix and Lisa G. Scholtes. Ray is the loving grandfather of Amber (Chris) Butler, Mark Scholtes, Brantley Scholtes, Jacob Scholtes and the late Ashley (surviving Chad) Sanders. His great grandchildren include Jack Butler, Adeline Sanders, Analynn Butler and Grayson Sanders. He is the dear brother of Helen (Harold) Cavins and the late Elmer Lacy “Toby” (Ruth) Hendrix. He is a dear uncle, cousin and dear friend to Linda Fritzius as well as many others.
Ray was born in Reinzi Mississippi. After graduating from Glen Dale high school in 1953, he was awarded a basketball scholarship where he attended and graduated from Bethel College in 1957 with a degree in physical education and a minor in mathematics. He and Willie Sue married in 1956 and shortly after moved to St. Louis for work. Ray got a job at the Defense Mapping Agency in St. Louis where he spent the rest of his working career except for a short time he spent in the military. Ray retired from Defense Mapping as a Physical Scientist and Supervisor. He loved reading, watching sports and was an avid fisherman. Ray was an active member of the Arnold Church of Christ, passionate about his faith and was a dedicated family man.
Services: A visitation is scheduled from 4-7 pm Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at Heiligtag-Lang-Fendler Funeral Home in Arnold, MO. A second visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 29, 2015, at the New Hope Church of Christ, 157 County Road 346, Glen, MS. The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation. Burial will take place in the Church Cemetery. In memory of Ray, contributions are encouraged to the Children’s Home Foundation, 5515 Old Walcott Road, Paragould, Arkansas 72450.
