Martha Louise Carlson went to be with her savior the Lord Jesus Christ on November 9, 2017, at home. She was born August 30, 1927 in Charlotte, NC, to the late Fred F. and Dezzie Little Hartsell.
After graduating from the Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing, in Charlotte, and the Prairie Bible Institute, Three Hills, Alberta, Canada, she went to Nigeria, West Africa as a missionary nurse under the SIM, Int.
She and the late Rev. Victor S. Carlson of Garden City, MN, were married in Igbaja, Nigeria, November 15, 1952. They served the Lord Jesus Christ for almost 20 years in Nigeria. For the next 20 years they were missionaries under the UIM, Int. working among the Native American in both Arizona and Washington. They were members of the First Baptist Church of Marysville, WA.
Mrs. Carlson is survived by her children: Tricia Carlson, Marysville, WA, Tim (Val) Carlson, Lake Stevens, WA, and Kathy (Jim) Brock, Moses Lake, WA; six grandchildren: Jeremy (Jill) Brock, Matthew (Malerie) Brock, Steven (Nicole) Brock, Tiffany (Josh) Ohta, Amy (Micah) Pepper, and Julie Carlson, and 10 great-grandchildren, all of Washington; two sisters, Gertha Richards and Pat (John) Kilgo both of Davidson, NC, and one brother, Dr. Henry Hartsell of Altus, OK, and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by an infant son, Freddie, her husband, Victor Carlson, and her sister, Christine Huneycutt of Charlotte, NC.
