John May, a dedicated and accomplished professional and family man, passed away peacefully at home on May 14, 2024, at the age of 92. Born in London, England, John embarked on a remarkable journey. At the age of 16, John made the bold decision to relocate to Canada, where he met the love of his life, Carol. Together, they built a beautiful life, filled with love, laughter, and unwavering support. Their marriage, which began Nov. 1, 1958, was a testament to their enduring commitment to each other. In 1961 they immigrated to the U.S., settling in Venice and later Mar Vista (W.LA) Ca. John’s professional career was marked by a deep passion for computer programming and a strong work ethic. He began his career at Weyerhaeuser Mortgage, in Los Angeles Ca. where he honed his skills as a program analyst. His expertise and dedication led him to various prominent roles, including positions at Tulare District Hospital and the Tulare County IT department. John's contributions were instrumental in driving innovation and improving operational efficiency in these organizations.
In 1978, John and his family moved to Central California, where they ventured into entrepreneurship by opening a hardware store. Although the store eventually closed John's entrepreneurial spirit remained unyielding.
John's retirement in 2000 marked a new chapter in his life. He relocated to Washington State, where he spent his final years enjoying the tranquility and beauty of the Pacific Northwest.
John also loved all things animals, whether pets or wildlife; a trait he passed on to both of his daughters. In the 1970’s John was highly involved in the West Los Angeles Obedience Training Club, showing his beloved Standard Poodle “Blackjack” and volunteering as a board member for several terms. John and Blackjack won multiple Obedience titles in the US, Mexico and Canada.
John will be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving father and a respected professional. His unwavering commitment to excellence, his passion for technology, and his entrepreneurial spirit have left an indelible mark on those who had the privilege of knowing him.
John was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Carol and longtime companion Ruth, as well as his brother Dick (Ruth) and sister Edna. He is survived by his daughters, Melinda (Ed) and Marlene (Steve) and his two grandchildren, Kacey and Garrett.
John's legacy will continue to inspire and motivate those who follow in his footsteps.
Our family is eternally grateful to his wonderful caregivers and hospice which allowed us to honor his desire to remain at home until his final day.
