Tom Roberson. 81, died peacefully on May 23, 2022. Born May 31, 1940, in Seymour, Texas, he was predeceased by parents, Clinton Ellis and Lillian Hope Spinks Roberson; brother, Donald Spinks Roberson; and nephew, Mark Roberson. He is survived by long-time partner, Patrice Coss; son, Brian Roberson, Chantilly, VA; sister, Mary Jayne Allen (Bill) Chattanooga, TN; niece, LaDonna Baertlein (Joel) Littleton, CO; several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Tom moved to the DC area while serving in the Army Band from 1962-1965 – and never left. With degrees in music education from Arkansas State University and the University of Illinois, he was proficient in all band instruments. During his teaching career, he taught beginning band in several schools in Fairfax County. After retirement he went back to school and became a licensed physical therapist assistant, working at Cameron Glen in Reston.
Tom enjoyed life and especially appreciated music, art, good food, unique clothing, bicycling, collecting items (to be sold later on ebay), and telling stories.
An avid bicyclist, he was part of the racing community in the 1970’s and 1980’s. He retained his racing form long after he stopped racing – and continued riding one of his many favorite bicycles as long as his health permitted. A member of Potomac Pedalers, the DC biking community, and Oxon Hill Bike Club, he led rides in rural Fauquier County for several years, sharing mini –lectures about the history of the area.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
