Patricia "Pat" Kay Helmick Wooster, age 77, of Arlington, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, September 18, 2018, at the home of her niece in Burke, Virginia. Pat was born on May 4, 1941 in Thomas, West Virginia, to the late Wayne and Esther Helmick. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education and a Master of Arts Degree from West Virginia University. In 1963 she began her teaching career at Thomas Jefferson School in Jefferson, Ohio before beginning her teaching career in the Arlington County Public Schools from 1965 until her retirement in 1994. She also taught school in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands from 1970 through 1971. Pat was a bright and compassionate woman who loved her family, friends and community. She is survived by her brother Joe Helmick (wife Shirley), sister Jan McCall (husband Michael), and sister Jean Morrison, two nephews, five nieces and their families. She is preceded in death by her parents, Wayne Helmick and and Esther Ferruso Helmick, and her husband David Edward Wooster.
The family will receive friends on Friday, September 28, 2018 from 5 - 8 PM at Murphy Funeral Home, 4510 Wilson Boulevard, Arlington, VA 22203. A funeral mass will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at St. Anne Roman Catholic Church, 5300 N 10th Street, Arlington, VA 22205. Burial will follow at National Memorial Park, 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA 22042. If desired, in lieu of flowers, friends and family may make donations to St. Jude's Hospital, the Humane Society (or local animal shelter) or the National Stroke Association.
