Mary Ann Perry

Mary Ann Perry of Springfield, VA, passed away May 16, 2020 at home. She was 93. A long-time resident of Rose Valley, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Perry lived locally in the GreenSpring Community for the past eight years.

Mrs. Perry, formerly Mary Ann Cox, was born in Morgantown, West Virginia, in 1926. She was a graduate of Morgantown High School, and went on to attend West Virginia University, graduating in 1948. At WVU she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.

After living and working in Morgantown, WV, Miss Cox moved to Philadelphia, PA, in the early 1950s, where she was a home economist with the Philadelphia Gas Company. She was married to Gerald J. Perry in 1954. The family lived in Swarthmore, PA, Springfield, PA, and eventually settled in Rose Valley, PA. Mrs. Perry attended Cheyney State Teachers College (now Cheyney University), where she earned her teaching certificate in the late 1960s. She taught home economics and other subjects at various times throughout her years in Pennsylvania.

While living in Rose Valley, Mrs. Perry was active in Town Watch, The Garden Club of America, Kappa Kappa Gamma Alumni, and was the first lady of Rose Valley when her husband was the borough’s mayor. In the GreenSpring Community Mrs. Perry was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church.

Mrs. Perry is survived by her brother, Dr. Charles W. Cox, of Bradenton, FL; a daughter, Meg Lindsay, of Walnut Creek, CA; a son, Steve Perry, of Washington, D.C.; a daughter, Linda Lorndale, of McLean, VA; and six grandchildren, Sarah Lindsay, Tim Lorndale, Steve Perry, Ian Lindsay, Mike Perry, and Julianne Lorndale. Mrs. Perry will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery next to her husband at a date to be determined.
