Nécrologie de Lee Lorick Prina
Lee Lorick Prina died peacefully on September 13, 2024, at her residence in Washington, DC. Born in 1924 in Columbia, SC, she was a graduate of Holton-Arms Junior College and received a B.A. from the University of South Carolina and an M.S. from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. In addition to being a devoted and helpful mother, she held positions in public relations and had a successful freelance writing career. Her articles were published in the New York Times, Washington Post, Washington Star, Chicago Tribune, and Christian Science Monitor. She also worked on Time-Life Books Gardening Series. She was a former member of the Junior League of Washington, National Press Club, Sulgrave Club, and Tri Delta sorority. A former Washington Animal Rescue League board member, she loved cats, travel, and classical music. She lived in her home town of Columbia, SC, until she was accepted into Columbia University for journalism school and got on the train to go to New York City. One can imagine that this was quite something for a young woman from the South. She met her husband, L. Edgar (“Ed”) Prina on a blind date in South Carolina and reconnected with him in New York City. After they got married, they lived in New York and subsequently moved to Washington, DC, where they lived for many years. Lee is survived by her daughter, Lee-Lee L. Prina; son-in-law, Michael Washkevich; nephew, William B. Boyle Jr; and numerous cousins. She was predeceased by her dear husband of 66 years, L. Edgar (“Ed”) Prina; parents, Lee Alexander Lorick and Mary Craig Lorick Baker; and twin sister, Mary Lorick Boyle. The family thanks the staffs of Grand Oaks assisted living, Capital Caring Hospice, and caregivers Olive, Elizabeth, Lease, Sylvia, JJ, Ayo, and Denise of Capital City Nurses for their devoted care of Lee. A memorial service will be held Thursday, September 26, 2024, 2 p.m., at National Presbyterian Church, Washington, DC, with burial in October 2024 in Columbia, SC. Donations in Lee's memory can be sent to Humane Rescue Alliance (Washington, DC) or Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. A graveside service for Lee will be held privately in South Carolina at a later date.
