Evelyn Wildman Steger (Gamma) passed away on February 25, 2021, at the age of 96. She died in her sleep of natural causes at Commonwealth Senior Living in Kilmarnock, Virginia, where she had been living since December 2016.
Evelyn was born on May 18, 1924, in Washington, D.C. She was the daughter of Doris and Mason Wildman of Rockville, Maryland. She graduated from Washington-Lee High School in Arlington, Virginia, and was raised by her mother, Doris, and grandparents in Ballston (Arlington), Virginia. For most of her married life, and until 2015, Evelyn lived on North Lebanon Street in Arlington, Virginia.
On February 20, 1942, she married Edwin Melvin Steger in Arlington, Virginia.
In her lifetime, she was a faithful member of Westover Baptist Church in Arlington, Virginia, and in February 2009, received a Certificate of Ordination as Deacon by that church.
Evelyn loved card games, especially Bridge; playing golf; bowling; dancing and social events; gardening; and shopping with her girlfriends.
Evelyn is survived by her sons, Ronald Melvin (Betty), Jeffrey James (Cindy), and Leslie Allen (Cindi) Steger. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Ronald Scott (Gina) Steger; Sharon Elizabeth (Jeff) Clarke; Jeffrey Stephen (Alicia) Steger; Stacy Lynn (Kevin) Dawson; Nicholas Barton (Elizabeth) Steger; Benjamin Edwin (Savannah) Steger; her great grandchildren: Sierra Steger; Eden Clarke; Andrew, Hannah, Todd, Catherine, Michael, Peter, Joseph and Dominic Steger; Crawford, Ally and Sawyer Dawson; Luke and Kaitlynn Steger.
Evelyn was a woman of substance. She held the family together during World War II, the Depression, and very difficult economic times. Evelyn Steger mattered!
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Westover Baptist Church, Arlington, Virginia; Hospice of Virginia; and/or Visiting Angels in Kilmarnock, Virginia.
A private Graveside Service for members of Evelyn’s family will be held at National Memorial Cemetery in Falls Church, Virginia.
