Anthony William DiLorenzo

Anthony William DiLorenzo born August 6th, 1951, age 66, passed away peacefully in his home in Gainesville, Virginia on Sunday, March 25, 2018. Tony was the eldest child of the late Col. Anthony DiLorenzo, MD and Julie Frances DiLorenzo of Arlington, Virginia. He graduated from Yorktown High School and George Mason University. Many remember Tony as being an avid race car enthusiast, not only as a driver on the SCCA circuit, but also as a fan. Anyone who knew Tony won’t forget his car, the Big Orange, racing the circuit at Summit Point, Watkins Glen, Mid-Ohio, Charlotte, the Poconos and of course, Road Atlanta. Tony had the distinction of being a multi-time Mid-Atlantic Road Racing Series champion and competed against Paul Newman and others in the SCCA throughout the 80’s and early 90’s. His love of cars began as a teen growing up in the era of HO slot car model racing and his passion for cars extended into his professional life as well. As a young man, Tony was employed as a car salesman and over the years advanced in his career to the level of General Manager of one of the largest Acura dealerships in North America. His sense of humor and dry wit along with his magnanimous personality made him a natural at dealing with people from all walks of life and contributed greatly to his success in the car business. Tony’s love for cars was surpassed only by the love he had for his two sons, Anthony Joseph (AJ) of Woodbridge, Virginia and Frank Michael of Bryan, Texas. In his eyes, the crowning achievements of his life were his two sons. They, along with their mother, Sally Beeman, Tony’s former wife and only love, will deeply mourn his passing. Tony is also survived by his two brothers, Peter Vincent of St Ives (Cambridgeshire), England and Paul Edward of McLean, Virginia and their families. A viewing and memorial service will be held from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. this Saturday, March 31, at Murphy Funeral Home in Arlington, Virginia.
