Ronald J “Ronnie” Chesney was born in Lubbock, Texas on January 27, 1959 and was adopted through the Children’s Home of Lubbock by J Dudley and Reba Chesney. Reba wrote in Ronnie’s baby book “Ronnie, you were our Christmas present – you came to live with us on December 17, 1959 – oh, what a wonderful Christmas it was – you are perfect!”.
Ronnie gained a little sister, Karesa Flud in 1962 and the family moved to Earth, Texas the same year. Ronnie and Karesa were best friends and always had an adventure going on. The two had many stories to tell about growing up and always enjoyed their time together. Ronnie’s grandparents, aunts and uncles lived in Colorado City, Texas and he loved going to visit them and to spend time in “the country”. The Family made their final move in 1967 to Grand Prairie, Texas where Ronnie attended school and graduated from South Grand Prairie High School.
In 1977 Ronnie joined the Army and was stationed in Germany while apart of the Field Artillery Unity. During his time in the Army he was given the nickname “Snuffy” as his friends believed he resembled Snuffy from the cartoon comic, a nickname that he loved and used frequently. He served in the Army for 2 tours for a total of 5 years before being honorably discharged.
Ronnie was a long time member of Freetown Road Church of Christ and enjoyed attending service with his family. Ronnie loved animals and had a variety of pets over the years, his favorite being his pug Jellybean. Ronnie had many hobbies including riding motorcycles, gardening, and spending time with family and friends. His family and friends remember him as funny and outgoing, he never met a stranger and always had a joke ready to tell.
He was loved by many and will forever be missed.
Ronnie was predeceased by his parents, J Dudley and Reba Chesney. He is survived by his sister, Karesa (Keith) Flud, nephew, Kyle (Bailey) Flud, and niece, Kayla (Jonathan) Webb, 2 great nieces and 2 great nephews, many cousins and friends, and his beloved dog Pogi.
