Rob was born on August 8, 1974 in Anaheim, California. He graduated with honors from the University of North Texas in 1997, where he was a proud member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.
Rob is survived by his beloved sons, Richard Stanley and Matthew O’Brien; his parents, Nancy Regier and Mike O’Brien (Lydia); his wife, Heather Barrett O’Brien; his brother, Kevin O’Brien; his sister, Shannon O’Brien Wright (Christopher); and a host of nephews, who all thought “Uncle Rob” hung the moon. Rob was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, W. Murray Regier and Betty Grant Regier and his paternal grandparents, Robert Benton O’Brien and Laverne Cook O’Brien.
Rob grew up in Detroit, Michigan and remained a lifelong fan of the Tigers, Red Wings and Wolverines. Inspired by his late grandfather, W. Murray Regier, Rob became an avid golfer, eventually qualifying for the 1992 U.S. Junior Amateur tournament. After graduating from college, he spent several years playing golf professionally and traveling the country. More recently, Rob enjoyed working in finance as a Senior Vice President for Santander Consumer USA.
Rob’s favorite thing to do in the world was spend time with his two sons. He spent many years coaching them in their various sports leagues, always making sure all the kids had fun. No matter what he was going through, Rob could always be counted on to be there with a smile and a kind word. He was an incredible human being who will be deeply missed by all those who knew him.
In recent years, Rob enjoyed volunteering at the Salvation Army soup kitchen in Arlington. He thoroughly loved helping those less fortunate than himself.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be sent to his favorite soup kitchen; The Salvation Army, Attn: Bridget Lenhardt, 712 West Abram, Arlington, Texas 76013. Donations may also be made in Rob’s name to The Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America, National Processing Center, P.O. Box 1245, Albert Lea, Minnesota 56007-9976.
