On Friday, June 26, 2020, Richard Anthony Mulligan, loving husband to Bernadette, and devoted father to Ruairi, John Paul, Roisin and Emily, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Kindred Hospital in Arlington, TX at the age of 71.
He was an unbelievable fighter and he held strong to his Catholic faith. He found comfort that he’d be reunited with his parents, as well as his grandson, Richey Anthony Mulligan II.
Richard was born on April 5, 1949 in Peterborough, England to Basil and Josepha Mulligan. He grew up in both England and Holland along with his younger sister Mary.
Richard had a natural born drive to succeed from a very young age, from managing a music group in his late teens to having an award-winning sales career. However, his greatest motivation in life was to provide for his wife and family. Richard and Bernadette met in England and later married before moving to Ireland and starting a family. They went on to have two boys, Ruairi and John Paul, and two daughters, Roisin and Emily. They were married for 44 wonderful years.
Richard had a great interest in music. He was an avid keyboard player and had an unbelievable ear for all types of music from the Rolling Stones, B.B. King, Tom Petty, and even Beethoven. He passed his love of music down to his children. Richard also enjoyed live sporting events, including soccer, rugby, horse racing, and especially the Dallas Cowboys. He supported all his children, and recently his grandchildren, in their sporting events as well. He loved watching them achieve and develop into great athletes.
Richard was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Basil Wilfred Mulligan and Josepha Maria Berendina Antoinette Mulligan and his grandson Richey Mulligan II. Richard is survived by his wife, Mary Bernadette Mulligan, his children Ruairi Mulligan, John Paul Mulligan, Roisin McMahon, and Emily Mulligan, daughter-in-law, Holly Mulligan, son-in-law, Charles McMahon, and seven grandchildren: Brendan Mulligan, Judd Mulligan, Hannah Mulligan, Braden Mulligan, Pearse McMahon, Liam McMahon, and soon-to-be granddaughter, his Sister, Mary Hinde, brother-in-law, Steve Hinde, and his nieces, Clare Woods and Laura Rawson.
Richard’s funeral service will be held on Friday, July 3rd, 2020, at 2pm at Moore Funeral Home in Arlington, TX. Masks will be required. Due to limited seating there will also be a Facebook Live Stream. Family and friends wishing to join via Facebook can do so by visiting the Moore Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens Facebook page at service time. The streaming will begin shortly after scheduled service time.
