Peter was a faithful witness to the Gospel. He used his analytical skills and knowledge of Greek to simplify the Word, which he taught in podcasts. He applied his creative talents to bring a visual reality to the Christian walk through the books and magazines he wrote and designed. By trade Peter was a lawyer; his family and friends knew him as an avid photographer who set his camera down only when he walked into the courtroom.
Peter also adored his family. Born in New Jersey to Sue James and Philip Smythe, Peter grew up in Duncanville, Texas. After his son Alex was born, Peter settled down in Arlington. He loved Alex deeply, who was, to his chagrin, the frequent subject of Peter’s photographs. He met his future wife, Aisha, in the courtroom on opposing sides of a case. They soon became the best of friends and in their 19 years of marriage were inseparable.
Peter graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications from Oral Roberts University while also attending Rhema Bible Training Center. He earned his juris doctorate degree, also cum laude, from Texas Tech School of Law. From racquetball to running, nothing was too hard for Peter—except, perhaps, leaving his family and his unfinished gospel projects. We’ll make sure that Peter continues to share his Christian writing and preaching on his website, https://petersmythe.com.
Peter is survived by his parents, Sue and Philip Smythe; his sister Allison, and her daughters, Samantha and Hayley; his sister, Valerie, her husband Greg, their children David, Jordan, Mary and Stevie; his son Alex; and his wife, Aisha.
He is preceded in death by his brother, Steven Smythe.
He most admired those who gave their lives to serve the Lord. To that end, his family requests in lieu of flowers, friends consider donations to Good News Church (goodnewsaugusta.com) or to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.moorebowenroad.com for the Smythe family.
