Nevada was born July 26, 1937, in Commerce, Texas, to Mary Vernon and John Dennis Spring. She grew up in Commerce and graduated from Commerce High School where she participated in the band, FHA, and worked on the newspaper "Tiger Tips." She received her bachelor’s degree in education from East Texas State College. In 1959, she married Delane Stewart. Nevada and Delane raised their two children, Jeffrey and Julie, in Arlington, Texas. Delane Stewart passed away in 1983. In 1987, she married Carl Fluke, and over the years, they lived in Arlington, Whitney, and Granbury.
Nevada was a devout Christian and a long-time member of First Baptist Church Arlington. Nevada and Delane worked for many years in the seventh grade Sunday School department and with the middle school choir. She went on mission trips to Wollongong, Australia; Juarez; Frazier Valley, Colorado; Van Buren, Arkansas; and Springfield, Missouri. Nevada volunteered for many years at Mission Arlington, working in the food pantry.
To her family, Nevada was a wonderful wife, mother, and Mimi who loved traveling and spending time with family. She enjoyed playing golf, games, baking (especially pumpkin bread for her grandkids), telling some good stories, and she was an avid sports fan. Nevada worked various teaching positions for the Arlington ISD.
Nevada was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Vernon and John Dennis Spring; by two husbands, Delane Stewart and Carl Fluke; and by her son, Jeffrey Stewart. She is survived by her sister, Melba Spring Hayes; her daughter and son-in law, Julie and Daniel Ballenger; her daughter-in-law, Joy Stewart; by her grandchildren, Alex Stewart (Camryn), Tyler Ballenger, Josh Stewart, and Cameron Collins (JD); and by her great-grandson, Bentley Stewart. Her step-children include Trish Chapman, Kathy Vines, Craig Fluke, Stephanie Fluke, Cindi and Dennis Bliven; step-grandchildren Forest Jacobson, Kristan Dresden, Fontana Chapman (Danielle), Mason Chapman, Erin Vines, Daniel Vines (Brittany), Amanda Vines, Jennifer Fluke, and Chris Fluke (Jamie); and 10 step-great-grandchildren.
On April 8, 2022, at First Baptist Church Arlington (300 South Center Street, Arlington, Texas 76010), a visitation for Nevada will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. followed by the funeral service from 11:00 a.m to 12:00 p.m. A committal service will be from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at Moore Memorial Gardens (1219 North Davis Drive, Arlington, Texas 76012).
