Moses Beng Tong Keng

Moses Beng Tong Keng, went home to the Lord Jesus Christ on April 1, 2024. He was dearly loved by his wife, children, grandchildren and family and friends and church family. The memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 10 AM and a committal service will follow at 11:00 AM at Moore Funeral Home and Memorial Garden. Moses was born on October 30, 1932 in Xiamen, China to Tan So Khim and Keng Lin Kiat. During World War II, the family fled to the Philippines. During the war, Japanese soldiers would search their home to find weapon but God protected them for no physical harm was done to them. Moses also became critically sick with rheumatic fever. In a time with no antibiotics or much medications, he was bedridden for nearly a year. Elders from the church prayed fervently for his healing. A devout Christian told Moses’ father that if Moses survives, he will serve the Lord.

Growing up, Moses served the Lord in his local church and after his undergraduate studies at University of Santo Tomas. Moses always had a deep desire to serve the Lord. He was recommended to pursue seminary at Western Michigan Theological Seminary (Holland, Michigan). After his studies, he returned to the Philippines. He was asked to serve as the first senior pastor at Jubilee Evangelical Church in 1963. As a church plant, Jubilee Evangelical Church struggled financially so to supplement his income, Moses taught at Hope Christian High School. He was a beloved teacher. Even to this day, his students kept up with him either by phone, emails and Viber. He was ordained in November 27,1966. He met Mali (Mary) HoLaysan and married her on March 26th 1967. Moses and Mary had three children, Ephriam, Moses Jr. and Jane Abigail. In the early 1970s, Moses also serve as an adjunct professor in Bible Seminary of Philippines (then called BIOP/ Bible Institute of the Philippines).

In 1980, Moses and his family moved to Chicago, Illinois to pastor Chinese Christian Fellowship Church that grew from a student bible fellowship. Jubilee Evangelical Church and Chinese Christian Fellowship Church flourished due to God’s grace. Moses served God faithfully and truly shepherd his church family. He loved the church family and Moses knew that the church family also loved him. Despite retirement, he was still preaching at Chinese Christian Fellowship Church even through the COVID zoom church services and other churches in the Chicago area and Arlington Chinese Bible Church in Texas.

Due to God’s promise, we will see Moses again. Moses is survived by his beloved wife, Mary (Mali), and his 2 siblings, Shirley Tan and Lucien Sison and her husband. He is also loved by his sons, Ephriam and Moses Jr. and their wife, Christine and Anh, respectively. He is also loved by his daughter, Jane Abigail. Moses is also loved by grandchildren: Caleb, Jonathan, Allison, Megan, Emily, Joshua and many dear family members.

The family want to express their thanks for the outpouring prayers and love from family, friends in the Philippines, Taiwan and the United States. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the mission funds at churches that Rev. Moses Keng served and loved:
