Melany Karen Box Shook

Melany Karen Box Shook of Arlington, Texas, known for her cheerful, loving disposition and faith throughout her long battle with heart disease, kidney failure, and diabetes, passed away on February 3, 2022, at age 75 due to Covid pneumonia.

Melany was born on July 20, 1946, to Donald and Mattie Box in Denton, Texas. One of eight children, Melany attended elementary school in Newark, Texas and graduated in 1964 from Polytechnic High School in Fort Worth. She went on to study at Arlington State College.

She married Ronnie Shook, whom she met in high school, on October 8, 1965. The couple had two children, Tara Lee Shook in 1970 and Terry Alan Shook in 1973, and were divorced in 1989.

After working for a time as a bank teller, she landed a job as a bookkeeper for Kelly Moore Paint Company. She rose to the position of Assistant Manager and retired in 2012 after more than 30 years as a highly valued employee.

After her retirement, Melany spent her time reading, solving puzzles, and spending as much time with her family as she could. Most recently she lived at Fox Run Estates in Arlington where she made many friends and brought cheer to her neighbors, who often sought her out for encouragement and prayers.

Melany never judged and always knew how to lift spirits, give the greatest hugs, and the best advice with her kind words. She was the strongest, kindest, sweetest, and most god fearing person with a contagious and beautiful smile. She would give everything she had if you had a need, even if she was struggling herself. She was the true definition of selfless. She will be deeply missed every day.

Melany was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Ramona Gililland and brother-in-law, Lyndel Gililland; nephew, Robert Gililland; sister-in-law, Jan Box; brother-in-law, Gary Moss; and brother, Jon Lee Box.

She is survived by brother, Don Box of North Richland Hills, TX; sisters, Marquita Moss of Austin, TX, Tahna Cody and husband, John Bob of Nacogdoches, TX, Camille Moore and husband, John of Australia, and Gayle Garza and husband Chano of Ringgold, GA; her daughter: Tara Michel and husband David of Arlington, TX; son, Terry Shook and wife Heather of Frisco, TX; grandchildren, Ashley Neuschwander and husband Matthew of Arlington, TX; Haley, Hannah, Maddie, and Matthew Shook of Frisco, TX; great-grandson, Grayson Neeper of Arlington, TX.

A visitation for Melany will be held Wednesday, February 16, 2022 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Moore Bowen Road Funeral Home, 4216 South Bowen Road, Arlington, TX 76016. A funeral service will occur Thursday, February 17, 2022 from 12:00 PM, 4216 South Bowen Road, Arlington, TX 76016. A graveside service will occur Thursday, February 17, 2022 from 2:00 PM at Moore Memorial Gardens, 1219 North Davis Drive, Arlington, TX 76012.
