Luong Van Tran

Luong (Chifond) Tran passed away peacefully in the ICU of Medical Center Arlington surrounded by his loving family on the evening of December 4th, 2015 at 7:36. His hometown is Guangdong Province and he spoke the Hakka Chinese dialect. Early in life he was a teacher in Cambodia and Vietnam, where he met his wife, who was also a teacher at the time. They married in Cho Lon, Vietnam. He was eventually promoted to principal and superintendent of his elementary school. A few years later he became a business man and owned a factory that produced crayons. At first, the colors of the crayons were not up to his standards, but he found a way to improve their quality and they were eventually exported to neighboring countries. He also got into the business of Bata footwear retail, newspapers, magazines, books and office supplies for which he was granted government contracts.

After 1975, he bravely put four of his children on a boat to get out of Vietnam. Thankfully all the children eventually arrived in America. With the help of USCC, his son sponsored the rest of the family for their immigration to America where they were reunited. Upon Luong’s arrival, he started work his second day in the U.S. at a boat dealership. He would work there until he retired to help take care of his grandchildren and to travel the world with his wife.

Luong was very humble, gracious, kind and loving to everyone he met. He had a passion for reading, writing and poetry- he would write beautiful poems and submit them to Chinese newspapers anonymously because he did not want any thanks or praise. He is survived by his faithful and loving wife, his son and four daughters, seven grandsons and two granddaughters.

Visitation starts Thursday December 10, 2015 from 6:00pm to 8:30pm (Vietnamese Prayer Service, 7p-8p).

Friday December 11, 2015 from 6:00pm to 8:30pm (Chinese Prayer Service, 7p-8p).

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 12th at 9 AM.

All services are at Moore Funeral Home.

Luong was a great husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be missed by everyone that knew and loved him.
