His greatest love then was his band, Tom Thumb and the Hitchhiker’s. They were a very popular band at that time. In 1968, Kenny enlisted in the Army. At that time he traded his guitar for a rifle and a wrench. After Boot Camp and helicopter maintenance school he shipped out to Vietnam. He served 2 tours from 1968 to 1970. He attained the rank of Sgt in 18 months. During his second tour he was Crew Chief for General George Casey, the General in charge of the 1st Cavalry Division. While serving with General Casey, he was awarded a Bronze Star. Among many other medals. After Vietnam he went to Germany. He served there off and on for 14 years. He served at several posts in the U.S. His first love was the 1st Cav but he truly loved his time spent at Ft. Campbell Kentucky. He was part of the squadron that was going to Iran to bring the hostages home when they were released. After his retirement he continued working in aviation maintenance. He was active as an aviation mechanic for 50 years.
Kenny never forgot his music and continued to play until his health began to fail. He wrote, recorded and sang beautiful songs. April 13, 2007 Kenny marked the love of his life, Gale.
