James Loyd Terry

It is with great sadness that we had to say goodbye to our brother, uncle, cousin and friends, James L. Terry as he passed away peacefully in his sleep surrounded by his family on Saturday, February 7, 2015. Visitation will be Thursday, February 12th, 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Moore Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10:15 am on Friday, February 13th at Dallas-Fort Worth National Veterans Cemetery, 2000 Mountain View Parkway, Dallas. Mr. Terry will receive full Military Honors prior to burial.

James was born on August 8, 1925 in Rosebud, Texas to Loyd Leonadas and Helena Brock Terry. A year later he became "Big Brother" to Johnny and six years later to Roger Lee.

James served 23 years in the United States Army as a military policeman and retired as a Master Sergeant. During this time he served in the Korean War and two tours of duty in Vietnam and then the remainder of his career was spent in Germany. Upon retiring and then returning home he met and married Ava Ruth in 1980. Together they enjoyed singing with the Good Times Chorus Barber Shoppers. He was an incredible artist. He enjoyed genealogical research of the Terry family and published a book with family history dating back to about 1760. James was diagnosed in 2009 with Alzheimer's dementia and has lived in memory care for several years.

James was preceded in death by his wife Ava, his parents, and his youngest brother, Roger Lee Terry. Survivors include his brother John Terry and sister-in-law Maxine of Arlington, his nieces and nephews; Donna Terry, Dean Terry, Leslie Fonner and husband Alan, Lisa Workman and husband Mark, great-nieces and nephews; Rachel Robbins and husband Alan, Patrick Fonner, Taylor Smith, Erin Smith and great-great niece Noella Robbins. He is also survived by many cousins, friends and his favorite caregiver, Leslie, at Meadowbrook Memory Care. His family is grateful to all his caregivers at Meadowbrook and to Coco from Heart to Heart Hospice for all her care and assistance during his final hours.
