James (Jim) Wade Haskell, 92,peacefully passed away in Arlington, TX on Tuesday, December 20, 2022. Jim was born in Buffalo, NY on July 23, 1930 to Eleanor Moore Haskell and Porter Wade Haskell. He grew up in both Franklin and Clarion, PA. He made lifelong friends in Clarion and Franklin and attended high school reunions in both towns. He graduated from Oglethorpe University of Georgia in 1972 with a Bachelor of Arts degree shortly before retiring from the Marine Corps.
He was married to Gloria Sterthman for 43 years and they had 2 children He was by her side through illness and passing. In 1999, he married Jennifer Reeves, who shared his love of travel, adventure and having fun. She brought so much joy to Jim and continues to bring joy and love to the entire family.
Jim enlisted in the Marine Corps in April of 1949. He went through Naval Aviation training and flew Corsairs and F4 Phantoms. He fought in both Korea and Vietnam. Jim was awarded the Bronze Star and the Air Medal for his heroic achievements. He was able to travel the world with the Marines. He retired in February 1973 as Lt. Colonel but never stopped being a Marine. As they say, “Once a Marine, always a Marine” and Jim was the personification of this motto. Through his love and dedication for the Marine Corps, Jim became a lifetime member of several organizations. He was was a member of the Military Order of World Wars, Metroplex Marines, Marine Corps Aviation Association, Daedalians, Marine Corps League and the Marine Corps Air Transport Association.
After his retirement, he moved his family to Arlington, TX. He worked for American Airlines and Braniff. He found a second career in real estate. He worked for Coldwell Banker Commercial Real Estate as a broker specializing in industrial properties. He retired from real estate in 2000.
He is survived by his wife, Jennifer, his two children, Kimberly Snow of Flower Mound, TX and James Wade Haskell of The Woodlands. He has 4 grandchildren, Kyle Snow, Lauren Hladky, Jas. Haskell and Ainslee Haskell, as well as 4 great grandchildren.
A visitation for James will be held Thursday, January 5, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Moore Funeral Home, 1219 North Davis Drive, Arlington, TX 76012. A funeral service will occur Friday, January 6, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1200 W Green Oaks Blvd, Arlington, TX 76013.
Serving as pallbearers are Amir Ajami, Dalton Hladky, Lee Jennings, Kyle Snow, Ralph Sobel, Douglas Whitley and Marine Corps League.
