Ben and Yan Zhang, from Nanjing, China, have been married since 2007. His greatest source of joy in recent years was their son Nathaniel. The three of them loved playing games, riding bikes and going on trips to “Mickey’s House,” Sea World, Galveston and even China.
He was born in San Antonio, Texas on December 11, 1962. Ben attended St. Maria Goretti School in Arlington and graduated from Nolan Catholic High School in 1981. He received his BBA in Management and Economics from UT-Arlington in 1986 and earned the Wall Street Journal Award.
Ben received his MA in Sociology and continued his education at SUNY Buffalo where he successfully completed all the coursework and written comprehensive examinations as a Ph.D. candidate in Sociology.
In Miami, Florida, Ben worked as a field researcher and instructor in Sociology for both Florida International and Florida State Universities. He returned to Texas and earned his Certification to teach high school Social Studies—Economics, Psychology, Sociology, World History and World Geography. He taught at Arlington High and James Bowie in the Arlington ISD before joining the faculty at Southwest High School in Fort Worth.
Ben was a righteous man who spoke his mind and held people accountable for their actions. He was curious and intelligent and could always be counted on to have an informed opinion on almost any topic. But Ben also had a wicked sense of humor and could easily get on a roll and have everyone laughing until they cried.
Ben was preceded in death by his father, Ben O. Timberlake, Jr., his grandparents and his aunts and uncles.
He is survived by his wife, Yan Zhang; his son, Nathaniel Timberlake; his mother, Terry Timberlake; his sister, Ellen Timberlake-Volz and her husband Dennis Volz; his sister, Suzanne Timberlake and her husband John Holness; their new kitten, Grace; numerous cousins; many friends; and countless former students whose lives he impacted in some small but positive way.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 24, 2022, at Moore Funeral Home, 1219 N. Davis Dr., Arlington, Texas. Interment will follow in Moore Memorial Garden. Family will receive visitors prior to the service starting at 10:00 a.m. and after the service in the Main Reception Room at the funeral home.
