Linda Loretta Fruehling (79) passed away peacefully on Wednesday November 1, 2023, after a brave battle with cancer. She is survived by her loving sons, Keith Fruehling (Amy) and Chris Fruehling (Kim), her four beloved grandchildren Brittany, Nicholas, Taylor, and Sydney and many nieces and nephews.
Linda was born on September 16, 1944, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Marcus and Dorothy Louise Erickson. Linda was preceded in death by her older sister Carol Corirossi, and her husband Anthony (Tony). Linda lost her biological father when she was two years old. Thereafter, Louise remarried Herbert Mittag (Major, United States Army), who then adopted Linda as his own. As a young lady, Linda enjoyed traveling around the world (predominantly throughout Europe) as a benefit of being a daughter of a military man and wife. These experiences helped to shape her throughout her lifetime and led to her fond appreciation of European people and their culture. Upon the conclusion of her dad’s military career, Linda’s family then settled in Arlington Heights, Illinois where she attended and graduated from Arlington High School in 1962. In high school, Linda was a talented, enthusiastic, and valued member of Arlington High School’s show choir and Orchesis.
After graduating high school, Linda attended Coe College located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. After college, Linda returned to the suburbs of Illinois where she ultimately settled in Hoffman Estates and began raising her family. Over the next fifty years she lived there raising her two sons and excelling professionally as a medical transcriptionist and later, as a legal secretary for James M. Hoffman and Associates. Linda loved attending her boys various sporting events, playing games, and creating a nurturing home filled with love. She also enjoyed crocheting and had gifted many handmade blankets to multiple family members, which are cherished keepsakes.
After retirement, Linda loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was an avid reader over the years (known to finish an entire book in one day), until later in life when she was introduced to Netflix, where her focus then turned to watching all types of movies and shows. Linda loved nature. She appreciated it during her long walks through her neighborhood and local parks. Her favorite place to walk was along the path that winds throughout Highpoint Park. Linda experienced many blessings in retirement, but none rivaled the blessings of her grandchildren. Every moment with them was the most precious of blessings (and she has the photos to prove it)!
Linda had a heart of gold, a beautiful smile, and she loved her family endlessly. Her family was everything to her and she would do anything for them. She will be dearly missed and will reside in the hearts of those that knew her forever!
To honor Linda’s wishes, there will only be a private graveside service for immediate family.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Linda’s name and honor to the American Cancer Society at: https://donate.cancer.org and/or the Hoffman Estates Branch Library c/o: Schaumburg Township District Library, 130 South Roselle Road, Schaumburg, IL 60193 (please remember to include her name with any donations made).
