Kandis “Kandy” Lynn Cane passed away on November 12th, 2024, at the age of 67, surrounded by her beloved husband, Rory Baracani, and her two children, Christopher Schultz and Kori Jung (John). Kandy shared over 20 years with her first husband, David Schultz, with whom she had her two children.
A devoted “Gigi” to her grandchildren, Payton and Braeden Jung, Kandy was also a cherished sister to Kim Rampenthal, Mark Gibson, Jenny Leech and Kelly Swanson.
Kandy was predeceased by her mother, Lois Powell Cane, her father, Robert Cane, her stepmother, Patti Gibson, and her sister, Kelly Swanson.
Kandy was born to Lois Powell and Robert "Bob" Cane on August 17th, 1957, in Wichita, Kansas. Kandy grew up with her parents in Kansas until the untimely passing of her mother when Kandy was 8 years old. Following her mother's passing, Kandy traveled the country with her father from age 8-15, moving 4 times and finally settling in Crystal Lake, IL. When Kandy was 15, her father married Patti, a widow with four children, and Kandy suddenly found herself part of a blended family—a “Brady Bunch” experience that soon blossomed into deep bonds and a lifetime of love. She embraced her new siblings, nephews, and nieces, treasuring every lively gathering, holiday celebration, and camping trip that brought them all closer together.
Kandy graduated from Crystal Lake Central High School in 1975, and later earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Northern Illinois University. She was immensely proud of this achievement, as she not only financed her own education but also became the first in her family to attend college.
Kandy dedicated her early career to bedside care in nursing homes and spent her later years as a case manager in the health insurance field.
Her true joys in life were being a mother, grandmother, and friend. She loved vacationing in Florida, playing games, walking through her neighborhood, cooking for her family, and sharing dinners out with loved ones.
A private memorial service will be held for the immediate family.
We ask that any gifts of condolence be made to the support of the Northern Illinois School of Nursing at The Northern Illinois University Foundation.
