Herbert "Jim" James Ritter Jr., aged 80, of Arlington Heights, IL, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2024. Born on August 15, 1944, Jim was a beacon of joy and laughter, whose zest for life was contagious to all who knew him.
Jim is remembered as a devoted husband to his wife of 55 years, Sara Ritter. Together, they built a home filled with love and cherished memories. He was a beloved father to Michael (Dawn) Ritter and Kirstin (Jeff) Samp, imparting wisdom and kindness that shaped their lives. His role as a grandfather to Landon, Brynn, and Avery Samp was one of his greatest joys. He cherished every moment spent with them, and his legacy of love will continue to guide them. Jim also held a special place in his heart for his sister, Wendy Ritter, and his sister-in-law, Patricia (the late Charles) Ayers, as well as his many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins who will miss his presence deeply.
An avid golfer, Jim's happiest moments were often found on the green, where he played with the same passion and precision that he approached all aspects of his life. Jim's lived for summers in Wisconsin, where he enjoyed spending time on the lake with his family. His boat was more than a vessel; it was a place where laughter echoed, pulling skiers on repeat was fun, and memories were made under the summer sun.
Jim's loyalty to his favorite sports teams, the Chicago Bears and the Wisconsin Badgers, was unmatched. He spent many a weekend cheering them on, relishing in every victory and remaining steadfast through every defeat. His enthusiasm for the game was infectious, and he was often the heart and soul of game-day gatherings.
Known for his kind and generous spirit, Jim never hesitated to lend a helping hand. He found joy in the happiness of others and went out of his way to make sure those around him were well taken care of. His storytelling ability was legendary, with a knack for weaving tales that captivated and entertained, often leaving his audience in stitches with his amazing sense of humor.

Services for Jim will be held on Friday, January 3, 2025 at Saint Peter Lutheran Church 111 W Olive St, Arlington Heights, IL with visitation starting at 9:00 AM until the time of the service at 10:30 AM.
