George Howard Pelter, Jr.

George grew up in Orlando, Florida, and graduated from Maynard Evans High School in 1965. After high school, George served our country in the Air Force from 1965 - 1969 during the Vietnam War era and received a National Defense Service Metal. During his time in the Air Force, George traveled to Germany, Norway, Turkey, and Spain to assist various Generals and Chiefs of Staff.

After serving in the Air Force, George had a long career with Florida Power, that became Duke Energy for 30+ years. George worked as a Line Worker installing electrical wires and setting new electrical poles. After 20 years, George was promoted to Coordinator, working in the corporate segment, approved permits for new work and visited properties to locate where equipment would be installed for the Line Workers. After retiring, George was asked to perform contract work for Duke Energy.

George met his wife, Susan, in 1991, when they both attended Church of The Holy Spirit Episcopal Church, and they had a successful marriage for 31 years. As a dedicated church member, George served on the Altar as a Lay Reader as well as several church events and committees. In addition, George participated in Cursillo for many years, along with his wife, Susan, and friends.

Together they created a blended family that includes George’s daughter, Holly Copeland, son, Todd Pelter, and Susan’s sons, Clark Nash and Trey Tretter.

In addition to being a dedicated and loving husband and father, George loved spending time in the Georgia and Tennessee mountains walking nature trails and visiting waterfalls, NASCAR, and cars. George also enjoyed riding his Honda Gold Wing motorcycle, joining a motorcycle club, making long-lasting friendships here, and taking weekly motorcycle rides with his motorcycle club. Over the years, George and his friends at the motorcycle club made trips to Tale of The Dragon and US 129 Deals Gap in Georgia.

Throughout George’s entire life, he held an unwavering faith in God, which he shared with those who surrounded him. George joins his mother and father, who have already passed into Heaven.

George is survived by his family members, his wife, Susan Pelter, daughter, Holly Copeland, granddaughter, Reagan Copeland, son-in-law, Brooks Copeland, and sons, Todd Pelter, Clark Nash, Trey Tretter, grandchildren, Kennedy Nash and Ashton Tretter.

Celebration of Life will be held at 4:00pm on September 20, 2022 at Church of The Holy Spirit, 601 S Highland Ave, Apopka, FL 32703.
