Scott Edward Hoerner passed away on November 24, 2024, following a courageous battle with cancer. Born on April 15, 1968, in Dayton, Ohio; he was the son of Edward Richard “Dick” Hoerner and Carol Shank Hoerner.
Scott is lovingly survived by his parents; sister Sheri (Rick) Johnson of Cary, NC; brother Rick (Cindy) Hoerner of Purvis, MS. He is loved and will be missed by nephews; Zach and Ethan Johnson; niece Hannah Rowe.
As a young child, Scott and the family moved from Ohio to Mississippi. Scott was a huge sports fan and played little league baseball for many years, as well as football throughout high school. Even though Scott grew up in Mississippi, he remained a devoted Cincinnati Reds and Ohio State Football super fan. Scott attended college at the University of Southern Mississippi before moving to Atlanta, GA to graduate from the Art Institute of Atlanta. Scott was a talented artist and always shared his talent with family and friends through cards for special events. He never knew a piece of paper that he did not draw some type of character on. Scott remained in Atlanta for many years working using his artistic talent.
Scott eventually left the big city grind and moved back to Mississippi, deciding to make a career change. There, with his love of animals, took a position with the City of Hattiesburg’s Animal Control team. When his parents moved to North Carolina six years ago, Scott followed along to be closer to them, as well as his sister and her family.
Scott was a sensitive soul with a big heart. When his mother’s vascular dementia worsened this past summer, she entered a memory care facility, where Scott continued to visit her, as well as volunteering to help with activities there. One of the things he treasured from his visits twice a week was helping call ‘Bingo’ for the residents.
Scott will be missed immensely by all that knew and loved him.
A Service Celebrating Scott’s Life will be held in the Spring of 2025. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to American Cancer Society, St. Jude’s, Alzheimer’s Association, or any charity that is near and dear to your heart.
