Preceded in death by his parents, Joseph O. Raymer, and Verda D. Weinert Raymer, and Sisters Judykay Raymer Hartzell, and Christine Louise Raymer Gross.
Survived by his wife JoAnn Newell Raymer, sons Rick (Mary Cromer, Marcus Raymer, Lily Raymer), David (Aimee Koerner), and Jonathan (Michelle Wilson Raymer, Isabelle Wright, Hannah Wright). Brother Joseph O. Raymer Jr. (Marilyn Henderson Raymer), and his numerous nieces and nephews who lovingly called him Uncle Rick.
Rick was a devoted husband of 54 years to his high school sweetheart, JoAnn. He was a hero and shining example of a strong father to his sons Rick, David, and Jonathan.
Born and raised in Omaha Nebraska, Rick attended Creighton Prep High School and went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Iowa State University. He started his career in Green Bay, Wisconsin with Procter and Gamble and retired with P&G 31 years later in Cincinnati, Ohio in Health and Safety Management.
After retiring, he worked Game Security for the Cincinnati Reds, and went on to form and operate his own company specializing in Health and Safety as a Certified Safety Professional for the next 15 years in Cary, North Carolina.
He was a proud Grandfather, and mentor to many. He lived a life of service to his family, church and community, always putting the needs of others before his own. Rick was an avid Green Bay Packer, Cincinnati Reds and Carolina Hurricanes fan, and proudly coached his boys in hockey from the time they could walk. For many years his role as Santa brought great joy to himself and many others. If he wasn’t traveling, enjoying a round of golf with his CP Men’s Golf buddies, or perfecting his BBQ recipes and techniques, he was volunteering his time to help others, always with a Dad joke ready to bring a smile.
He passed away unexpectedly, dignified and peacefully this past Sunday evening at UNC Chapel Hill Hospital.
Rick was a devote man of God. His family will be forever grateful for the generosity and kindness of Mother Teresa Catholic Church in Cary, NC, the hospital staff at UNC, the Carolina Preserve community, his friends and beloved extended family.
Rick will forever be missed by his wife and family, church and community. May he rest in God’s eternal peace.
